Our world continues to benefit from the services of talented, dedicated, and skilled scientists, educators, and health professionals. Coker's chemistry program comprehensively prepares its students for all of these professions. Undergraduate research and internships, which emphasize practical application of chemistry, are a vital part of Coker's chemistry program. Its graduates are also able to pursue divergent careers because the program emphasizes not only the practice of science but also its underlying principles.

The chemistry and biology faculty have also formed the Coker College Health Sciences Advisory Committee (HSAC) to serve the specific needs of future health care professionals. The HSAC guides these students toward their career goals and provides letters of recommendation to professional schools on their behalf.

Facilities
Chemistry laboratories and classrooms are located in the William Chambers Coker Science Building. This modern facility houses several research-quality instruments, including a 300 MHz multinuclear Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer. Additional instruments include infrared, ultraviolet/visible, and fluorescence spectrometers; a gas and liquid chromatographs; and a voltammograph. Calculator-Based Laboratory (CBL) interfaces are routinely used for data collection and analysis. Students use instrumentation as early as their freshman year.
