History: Expect Great Things
Whether you want a career in education, research, government or a or want to pursue an advanced course of study such as law school , the goal of Coker’s history program is to provide you with an in-depth understanding of the past and how these teachings apply to both the present and future. Major in history and you will be well prepared for a career that requires leadership, compassion, analytical and communication skills. All of which are essential tools for succeeding in a complex and rapidly changing world. Coker’s history faculty does more than teach. Each faculty member has broad experience in the subject matter. Together you will journey through thought-provoking subject matter, exploring the past and how it applies to the preservation and future growth of society, nations and institutions. The faculty will challenge you to think for yourself, to express ideas orally and in writing, to evaluate and interpret complex ideas, and to develop a sensitivity to others as you learn the art of persuasion. You will emerge from your four years at Coker confident and with a strong sense of self.
Coker’s history program is designed to address the special interests and career goals of each student, including pre-law. Students explore all aspects of past human experience and learn to assess events from a variety of perspectives. You will learn that history is vibrant, ever-changing and always relevant.
