Scott and Paige Brown Phelps ’99 live in Hartsville. They have a daughter, Anna Carlin, who is four years old. She plays soccer, goes to dance, and loves 4K. Scott teaches at a separate school for middle and high school students with emotional disabilities.

Justin and Kristi Hutchinson Towey still live in New York City and most likely will be there the rest of their lives! They have two boys; Desmond is 7 years old now and Jake was born on September 10th, 2004. Justin still works for UBS, and Kristi is a full-time Mom. She is planning on going back to work soon from home.

Billy Mangan ’90 is still working for American Tower Corporation, going on 3 1/2 years now, and is a Senior A/R Specialist. He gave up basketball because he’s too old now, and has started playing softball!

Mirah White Welday: Hello, all! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Things with Kurt and me are about the same. Navy living is still agreeing with us, although we are hoping for a move sometime over the summer. We went on a Christmas/6th Anniversary vacation in December to Italy and it was spectacular. We went to Rome, Florence, Venice, and several small towns in between. We had a great time! Kurt and I are now the proud godparents of our new little niece Mae Katherine Elliott. She really is the sweetest baby and we are spoiling her rotten. I hope you all have a great 2006!

Kristi Hanson Brannon: Jason and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary in September. I am a sales consultant for Grubb Properties selling condominiums in uptown Charlotte. Jason still works for the Charlotte Bobcats as Director of Advertising and Marketing. No real kids, just our other boys Payton and Blue – both rescued Shepherd Mixes.

Ashley Pruett lives in Atlanta in the Vinings area. She is still working with ASHRAE as the Manager of Student Activities. She is still playing tennis and is enjoying being an aunt to 2 ½ year old Jackson Ryan (Jack).

Lisa Miller is still working at Randstad, USA, as a Human Resources Consultant. She lives in Columbia, SC.

Greetings to you all! I hope 2006 has been a great year for everyone so far. Here’s the latest scoop on our classmates.

Greg Lunn lives in Columbia and works as a web developer for ETV. He received a great honor last year when Midlands Technical College named him Adjunct Instructor of the Year in Continuing Education. Greg teaches web development classes at the college.

Last summer Tara Trotter passed her bar exam on the first try and now works as an attorney for Legal Aid Society in Virginia Beach, Va. She lives in nearby Chesapeake, Va.

Aaron Blanchard has moved back to Louisiana He works with a few groups of surgeons doing spinal surgery, general surgery and vascular surgery. He says he is happily married, and he and his wife live in the country with their two dogs.

Dia Byrd Dooley works for Vistakon, a division of Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, Inc., in Jacksonville, FL. She is a clinical research associate and monitors sites conducting FDA contact lens clinical trials. If you wear Acuvue, Acuvue 2, Advance and Oasys contact lenses, then you have Dia and her colleagues to thank for your 20/20 vision.

I have a few baby announcements to share. Christina All DeRienzo and her husband welcomed a son into the world in September 2005. His name is Tyler Anthony DeRienzo. Congratulations, Christina!

Randy Cooper sent exciting news that he and his wife are expecting a baby this summer. Randy, be sure to give us the details when the little one arrives.

Mark ’97 and I will have double the work soon. We are due with twins in early June. Needless to say, I’ll probably be a little sleep deprived when I write the next addition of class news. Let’s just hope the next update makes sense!

Please drop me a line for next time. Take care,

Holly Hall Becker

Salutations Class of 2001!

I can’t believe it’s time to give updates for The Commentary; I have been caught off guard once again.

Confession time: I’m terrible at sending out emails to check and see how everyone has been. However, it’s not like I have been sitting here with my finger in my nose doing nothing! (giggle)
I have been a bit busy...On November 10th after 55 hours of labor, I gave birth to a 8 lb. 7 oz. baby boy. Logan Mitchell is a miracle and never fails to amaze my husband and me.
I would love to hear from my classmates! Email me at: cheribcool@excite.com

Hoping your dreams are coming true!

Hey Everyone! We hope the class of 2003 is all doing well. It was great to hear from some of you. Here is some of what is going on with your fellow Cobras.

Tiffany Byrd is still working at Sonoco and working as a Marketing Analyst. She loves her job and loves the travel that is associated with it.

Becki McLeod is still living in Nashville and pursuing her singing career. Becki, please make sure to keep us all posted.

Jeff Baker is still living with Rob Christenson and Jessica Pendergraft in Nashville, TN. All three of them are working for Dell. Jeff just returned about a month ago from El Salvador where he was helping to launch a new Dell site.

Brian Ponticello is still living in Long Island, NY and working for Atkins Nutritionals as a Demand Planner. He recently traveled Europe for two weeks where he made stops in Prague, London, and Amsterdam.

Thomas Beben and Monica Carvajal Beben are living in Charleston, SC. Thomas is working for Enterprise Car Rentals. Monica is starting a new career in photography and will hopefully be able to make that a permanent career. They spent the 4th of July with Staci Miles Morgan in Myrtle Beach. Staci is expecting a baby in October.

Howard D. Brown and Amber Douglas Brown were married on March 26th. I had the privilege of being a groomsman. The wedding was a great time and D and Amber are doing great. Others in the wedding party were Courtney Smith, Dani Chaplin ’02, and Cara Wilkerson.

Cara Wilkerson is still living in Nashville and dating Conrad Deese ’05.

Bessie Tomberlin is working at Founders Credit Union in Rock Hill and working on her master’s degree at Winthrop.

Courtney Smith is working in Connecticut with a baseball team. Rumor is she might be moving to Charleston. Will keep you posted

Emily just moved to Waxahacie, Texas, 30 minutes south of Dallas. She graduated in May with her M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. She starts her new job on August 1st. Congratulations Emily!

As for me, I am still living in Charleston, SC. I am working as an Enrollment Counselor at Charleston Southern University and still like it pretty well. I am building a townhouse which should be complete by the end of August. By the time you will have read this, I will be back from my vacation in NYC. Bessie Tomberlin and I are going up to visit some friends from high school and doing the tourist stuff.

It was great hearing from everyone. You will receive more info about homecoming, but it is coming up, October 6-7, 2006. If you are ever in Charleston or Dallas, come visit us. Take care!

Wes Daniels and Emily Marovich

George Dee Wate writes “Hey, things have gotten crazy here the last 2 weeks. I’m teaching at Chester High School and I am teaching World History, Psychology, and Sociology. That’s just what I do during the school day. I coach Cross Country, Football, Volleyball, help with settling up basketball, and I will be coaching baseball. I hope all is well at Hartsville. I have to run. Dee”
